From 25 to 27 August, the EJN Secretariat participated in a plenary meeting of the South East Asia Justice Network (SEAJust)* in Da Nang, Viet Nam, contributing to exchanges on strengthening international cooperation in criminal matters and fostering closer links between judicial cooperation networks.
The EJN, represented by Deyana Deyankova, played a particularly important role in the third panel discussion titled “Strengthening Cooperation with Judicial Networks and Organizations from around the world.” Drawing on its experience as a network of national Contact Points facilitating judicial cooperation in criminal matters, the EJN contributed to the exchange of practices and reflected on opportunities for stronger cooperation between SEAJust and other judicial networks.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review SEAJust’s achievements, good practices and way forward, including developments presented by the SEAJust Secretariat, UNODC and ROSEAP, as well as perspectives from Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea.
Participants also explored Canada’s system for MLA, following its accession to the Network.
A first panel discussion focussed on National Legislative Development in International Cooperation in Criminal Matters within the SEAJust Network.
A further panel focused on ASEAN developments in international cooperation in criminal matters, highlighting key initiatives over the past year.

*SEAJust is a UNODC-supported judicial cooperation network that provides a practical and informal platform for direct communication between central authorities and competent practitioners. It facilitates mutual legal assistance, supports the exchange of information and good practices, and helps practitioners address practical challenges in cross-border criminal cases.
