In order to find traces of criminal offence and other objects relevant to the investigation, to determine the situation of the incident and other relevant circumstances of the case, an examination of the incident scene, the human body, the dead body, the location, premises, documents and other objects shall be carried out. Objects, documents and other objects shall be examined at the place of their discovery. Objects, documents or other objects the examination of which needs more time or which need to be examined by technical means may be examined in a laboratory or other place having the requiered facilities.

Lithuanian or English under the Convention of 29 May 2000 on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Member States of the European Union. Under the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters of 20 April 1959 requests and annexed documents shall be addressed to in Lithuanian or accompanied by a translation into one of the official languages of the Council of Europe (i.e. English or French).
